Sustainable Fashion is cool

Updated: Nov 18, 2022

Thoughts on the matter

In this ever changing world of ours, it can be tough to find the right fashions, products and other things that help the earth or at least stay eco friendly as close as possible.

So I decided it was time to do some deep digging and put in the time to some long needed research, to find the best earth lovin' friendly brands for not only me, but for you too!

Perhaps you have already thought about switching to biodegradable or even waste free products, but wasn't sure where to start. Some of what I'm about to show you, I have tried or at least heard good credited views on.

Alright, enough of this chit chat. Lets jump on in!

Say "No!" to fast fashion. And "Hello" to slow fashion.

First off, I want you to know that I'm not metaphorically bringing the hammer down on anyone who chooses to buy otherwise. And that it's perfectly ok to buy from some of the beloved stores that may not count otherwise. Because I even shop at places like; H & M, Forever 21, ect. And these are only two examples.

BUT It's NOT ok to buy something that you will wear only once or twice and then throw it out of your closet. Or because you already have a photo of you wearing it on Instagram, and decided to never wear it again. This isn't the right way to go. When I buy clothes, shoes, accessories, I really think on how I can get the most out of it. How I can easily incorporate it with other things in my closet. When I buy something, especially clothing, It lasts me a long time. Years can go by and whatever is hanging in my closet, will still look nice, clean, and closely fresh off the rack.

Be mindful

The main idea behind it all is this; Be mindful. And ask yourself the following before buying: Can I wear this again? Who made this? What is this made of? Are the three biggie questions you can ask yourself before heading to the checkout lane.

What is exactly fast fashion, you ask? And why you should choose more slow fashion instead. Fast fashion is the term used to describe cheap clothing designs that move quickly from the catwalk or celebrity culture to stores to take advantage of trends, created at an alarming rate to meet consumer demand.

The term slow fashion, is a movement that advocates for environmental, animal and social justice in the fashion industry. Some brands make clothing built to last, using linen, Tencel, and organic cotton, bamboo, to name a few. So these garments can hold up longer over time. Slow fashion also helps us save resources, lower our CO2 emissions, which makes a smaller impact on the environment and climate change.

And may I mention, buying second-hand is also a wonderful way to upcycle and add a touch of vintage to your wardrobe. And we all know how much other eras are coming back into the top trends lately, more than ever.

There might be a resale shop near you or even find one online. Yes. You read that right. There are online resale shops, packed with many different looks for everyone. And my all time fav is ThredUP an online thrift store clothing brand based in California. Use #thriftloudly on your socials to show the love, when sharing your new fit! Even their packaging mailers are made with 100% recycled materials.

All in All

With the links above, they range from clothing, makeup, house hold items and MUCH MORE! All to help you to live a better eco friendly life. Now, who doesn't like the sound of that!?

If I missed a store who you think should be on the lists please let me know in the comments below. I would love to hear! It's time to be more mindful of the planet. And making simple and easy switches to our every day to day lives can make a BIG change for the better. For ALL of us.

I, myself, will be making a few of these changes. And I hope you do too!

With the new year coming closer and closer, you can add a new resolution to your list this 2023. And a healthy, earth lovin' one at that! (Say "yes" to conscious style. and ask "why" before you buy.)

Even though fashion is, has, and always will be a big deal to the human race through the centuries, it shouldn't cost us this beautiful planet of ours in the process.

If you have clothing you want to get rid of, but its still in good shape, give it to a Goodwill, or perhaps a local thrift store. This small act can help A LOT.

Use way too many plastic bags? Make the switch to bees wax wraps. They are reusable, eco friendly, and come in stylish colors to spice up the kitchen. What's not to love?

And these are only two examples of many. I implore you to have a look at a few of the brands that I listed, and see what might strike your fancy.

With all my love, Xx. -A

Currently: It's 9:30 -ish on a Thursday night. And the only plans I have this upcoming weekend is to get this blog post up and running by tomorrow (Friday.) Which I'm totally fine with. My Spotify is tuned into "Best of Rock 1986" and playing in the background is: Take Me Home Tonight by Eddie Money, as I sip my nightly coffee in which as turned cold, in a festive Christmas mug.

Lately I've been spending more time with family, and I couldn't be happier! It was quite the lazy day. Other than enjoying good company, taking a lovely autumn walk with my mom, watched some birds collect seeds from a bird feeder that was hung a day before and updating my skincare routine for the cooler season, nothing else really happened. Recently I have been trying to add more relaxing days to my schedule. Reminding myself the slow days are as equally important as the fast moving productive ones.

Alright. There is a slice of pumpkin pie and an ungodly amount of cool whip calling my name. Not to mention, I have a good many photos to edit. Goodnight or Morning, Loves. Depending on which time you are reading this. - Astria Mikaelson

That’s a great vintage song to listen to. I liked reading this article because you made great points. I shop preloved sometimes and I’ve found amazing treasures. Plus mixing vintage with modern pieces can be fun too. I have seen people only wear one outfit once. And I never understood that. If I buy anything to wear I make sure to wear tons of times. Hope your having an amazing weekend. https://www.bauchlefashion.com
