Fall Favorites of 2023
Hello, loves! First, I would like to wish you all a wonder-fall autumn! (I couldn't help myself with that one. ;)
And secondly, I would like to apologize for ghosting with both blogs lately. I lost my log in info and couldn't get into it for a bit. But thankfully I found it over this last weekend and now we are back on a weekly schedule! Yay!
I thought that since it's the first week of October, it would be wonderful to give a list of some of my favorite things, that you might enjoy just as much as I do this autumn.
This year in Autumn
The Overall Coziness Of It All.
It's that time of year again, when you can go out and shop all day with your bestie and enjoy everything holiday themed popping out at you at every turn.
Then when you ride back home, there's plenty of trees painted with colors of red, yellow and orange to greet you. And miles worth of corn fields, that seem to beg someone to go running through them. Or perhaps that's just me...
Once settled, it's time for lighting a newly bought candle, brewing your favorite beverage and watching a comfort show/movie.
I mean, who can deny that any of that sounds like the best thing ever? I'll tell ya, that I haven't met a single soul yet that would.
This was the exact day I had a few days back. The beverage: Coffee. (of course.) The candle: Vanilla pumpkin and some plains. And the Show: Criminal Minds.
Also, I would like to add, that most Ice-cream shops will be closing soon. So, if you haven't made one last seasonal stop, now is a wonderful time!
This week was wonderful, and the sweet creamy treat tasted SO much better with at the end of the season and with my best friend. <3
The Fashion.
When it comes to fashion, it's one of the best feelings in the world when I get to swap out summer clothes for my autumn ones! Flip-flops for boots. (Although I would wear them all year long if the weather permitted it.) Tank top for comfy sweater. Shorts for cute as equally warm pants. (You get the polaroid picture.)
I don't know about you, but I much rather be cozy than sweltering in some sticky heat wave.
This year, the style has consisted of the following:
Trench coats, vintage long sleeves, chunky boots, dark sunglasses, tote bags, fingertip rings, handcrafted jewelry. And most colors that have been in my closet these days are cream, black, white, green, and brown.
(My Gold and Pearl spider statement earrings and necklace, along with handmade with love, fabric fall bracelets by my mom ha. But 1, 2, and 3, because 4 is honestly terrible.
The Shows/Movies.
Around this time of year, (or any time really.) but especially now, I simply LOVE re-watching my favorite comfort shows and movies.
I've already started the Harry Potter movies. Which is a definite staple in the movies category, as well as Jeepers Creepers. But 1, 2, and 3, because 4 is honestly terrible to say the least.
Criminal Minds and Supernatural on Hulu, and Gilmore Girls on Netflix, are always the best to watch! Especially if you get to watch them with your best friend!
Although I have picked up a few new favs with a year or so. And that's Shadow and Bone on Netflix. And School Spirits, that's on Paramount +.
(You'll definitely want to watch them. Trust me! They will become a new favorite guaranteed!)
The Food & Drinks.
Other than my favorite kind of drink, that's coffee, (Regular with cream and LOTS of sugar.) There are a handful of drinks that I've both recently tried and loved, along with my yearly favorites.
Starting with the yearly favs, light pumpkin spice anything, because if it's too strong it's disgusting if I'm being honest.
Then there's the traditional apple cider with doughnuts. #yum
As for the recent one, I've actually just started drinking hibiscus tea, and love it! (Even though it strikes me more of a summer kind of beverage, it's good for any season. Especially the benefits of it!)
For as for the food, lately chocolate pie and pumpkin pie hasn't been in any shortage in this house. Along with the popular pumpkin shaped Reese's chocolate.
And there is just something about freshly baked pumpkin bread, that gets you in the absolute best mood that you have ever been.
Warm soups and grilled cheese has also been really popular this year too.
5) The Music.
When it comes to the music, I've been going in between my liked songs on Spotify and to YouTube for those vintage fall music ambiance videos, that are either cozy or spooky.
And when I say Vintage, I mean anything starting at the 1920s to the 1950s usually.
Some of the music I've come across comes from movies or even cartoons.
As long as it get's me into the spooky season, I'm there for it!
The Self-care.
Self- care for me, consists of writing, (whether that it's for the blogs, journaling, or even one of my books) Skin/hair care and exercise.
With the cooler days with us now, the walks and exercise don't stop. You simply add more layers and get to it.
It's also a great time to add a new routine to your days! Don't be afraid to mix it up and change it a bit to help stay motivated!
As for the skin and hair care, I usually swap out certain things I typically use in the summer for winter. I look for more moisturizer and nourishing products.
Because if I don't, my skin and hair seem to turn drier. And we can't have that. No sir!
Just the other day I bought a new eye cream by RoC dual eye cream with advanced retinol & peptides, for lower and upper eye areas.
And a bottle of Spalife Hyaluronic Pearl Serum for hydrating and glowing skin.
Although my hands, that's a different story... After leaving from one state to another, I noticed that my knuckles started to become drier and red. It's what I call "Fighters Knuckles" because it looks as if, well, to put it bluntly, punched someone or something.
That's when I began to use Aquaphor healing ointment.
And even though I haven't had it for very long, it's already worked wonders!
Nature Made vitamin C gummies are always part of my healthy regimen.
They help support the immune system, which is great around the cold and flu season.
The writing has been going swimmingly, I might add and everything is on schedule.
I've been keeping busy with the new book merch launching this month.
Not to mention that April 15th for the new Romcom novel hitting stores will be here before I know it!
A little life writing tip that helps me, is that I'll keep a journal (and extra paper) not far from my bed. I even keep a tablet in my to go bag and or purse or in the car. That way, I can jot anything down that I need at a moment's notice.
Podcasts.
If you like inspiration, motivation or a good friend in your ear to help you with whatever it is you need at the moment, I have found podcasts to work.
Not long ago, I found the Podcast "French made easy" and it has been a game changer for me! I have already learned so much within the short time I have been listening.
There is also the "Mel Robbins" Podcast, that covers SO many topics that are both inspiring and kicks you in the butt to get you on the right track for your day and life.
these are the two main ones I have listened to lately and recommend.
The Extra Beauty.
What I enjoy: Seeing a little wooly bear caterpillar, leaving seed and nuts out for the fur and feather babies for the winter, watching the sunlight shimmer through the newly colored trees, finding new or old movies to watch, the first sip of coffee in the morning, creating things that I love and going to the holiday craft fairs, candles everywhere, The smell of fall, bonfires lighting up the night, the house smelling of baked goods, DECORATING BABY!
October Plans
You may be wondering what's in the plans for the rest of the month?
Well, I have some spook-tacular ones in store for you! That I can hardly wait to share!
One will be up very shortly. So be sure to check out the Write Your Life Podcast here, so you won't miss a thing.
More baking, scary movies, pumpkin picking and of course, downtown store runs for chocolate and seasonal goodies.
And in the between time, working on my next book.
Currently:
Watching one of my favorite tv shows, that was listed above. And that's Criminal Minds! While finishing up on a little self-care.
I heard one of my favorite motivational quotes the other day on a podcast, and it's, "Nothing Changes, if nothing changes."
I hope it's as motivating to you as it has been for me.
It's been a beautiful sunny day, and gloomy rainy evening. In which I did neglect my evening walk... Oh well. It happens. But tomorrow is a new day and a fresh start and beginnings.
Recently I've been going from a Fall/Halloween mood to a Winter/Christmas mood in half of a moment's notice. It could be morning time and I'll start singing a Christmas song or watch the Muppets Christmas Carol Movie, (like today lol.)
And when Evening comes, it's time to watch Stephen King's IT and Criminal Minds.
meanwhile admiring the leaves as they pass by my window.
